Resident tears the roof off it – literally

Harrington Hall was down some ceiling tiles, windowpanes, and few chunks of wall last weekend after a particularly ragin’ party.

The house held a “wing crawl” Oct. 25, which saw each wing of the house decorated to host different parties at different times of the night.

But it was after the party that the trouble started.

Residence life director Ryan Sullivan said a male resident came home between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. and punched holes in ceilings and walls.

The resident also broke two windowpanes.

Several ceiling tiles on the second floor came down, leaving wires exposed.

An electrician had to be called in upon discovery of the damage.

Sullivan says the resident had been drinking, though he did not attend the wing crawl.

“Alcohol was a factor,” he said. “The student has agreed that alcohol won’t be consumed for the rest of the academic year.”

Sullivan said the resident responsible came forward to residence life, and is taking full responsibility for the incident.

He says the resident apologized to the house, and is willing pay for all damages he caused.

“When he came forward he presented us with how he felt he could make it up to the house. He was fined on top of the damage, and he’ll be doing volunteer work in the house, along with the apology to the house and the alcohol probation,” said Sullivan

The student was fined $100 on top of the cost of damages, which is between $900 and $1,000.

A fire extinguisher was also discharged that evening, but Sullivan says that incident is not related to the rest of the vandalism. He said it was the fourth fire extinguisher to be “tampered with” in recent weeks.

can you please get some people to check your stats. I know you want to write interesting stories but if a story is not there, there’s no need to bullshit one. The “deviant resident” did not participate in breaking window panes and walls, he was responsible for the act of pulling down the ceiling. An act that wasn’t due to a party being out of control, but just a badly decorated party which left a situation exposed. So please, just because you can’t write satire either please don’t waste our time with pathetic half true stories, where in the ____ is your journalistic integrity.

Rachel: It appears the facts come from Ryan Sullivan, Residence Life Director. Maybe you should read the story over again and actually absorb what it says before commenting.

And if you live in the house you should know damn well there was more than “accidential” damage done.

  3. You gave have expensive ceiling tiles, because the article also says “between $900 and $1,000″ of damage.

Where did the two broken window panes and holes in the wall come from? I live at Harrington Hall on the floor that the damage was caused on. So I would like to quote a fellow Raider on this one and ask “Where do you get your facts?” As far as everyone here is concerned the individual in question had only accidentally pulled down the ceiling tiles.
