<p>The St. Thomas University basketball teams played hard this week, as both the men and women took on the Holland College Hurricanes and the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus Rams. <p>Ryan Terry, the only male distance runner on the St. Thomas University track and field team and the only male on the cross-country team, chose STU for the small class sizes that allow him to feel like his voice matters in class discussions. <p>The St. Thomas University men&#8217;s volleyball team defeated the Université Sainte-Anne Dragons on Jan. 27. The game started off evenly matched, going back and forth for both teams. <p>Growing up in a small town in Nova Scotia meant Hannah Clarke didn’t have a whole lot to do growing up other than sports. “I’m from Amherst which is a really small town,” said Clarke. “There wasn’t really a lot to do there other than play sports. So, I think that’s why I did so [&hellip;]</p>

<p>The St. Thomas University women&#8217;s volleyball team took on the University of Kings College Blue Devils on Jan. 20, just three days after they beat the University of New Brunswick Saint John 3-1. <p>It’s been an easy transition for the new St. Thomas University women’s hockey player, Megan Pardy, thanks to the welcoming environment of the team. <p>Javon Masters, a fifth-year basketball player for the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds, is arguably one of the best scorers in Canada. <p>The St. Thomas University women’s hockey team was able to pull off a 5-2 win over its rivals, the Université de Moncton Blue Eagles, on Jan. 13. <p>Before the Christmas break 35 student athletes gave back for the holiday season. The St. Thomas University Student-Athlete Council organized a food drive to help out the Fredericton and STU food banks. “The Christmas season can be extremely difficult for some students and families,” said Taylor Cook, vice president of the STU Student-Athlete Council. “We [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Christian Christie wanted to find a university that could support his love for volleyball, but still let him study what he loves. When he found St. Thomas University, he knew he would feel at home. <p>This has been the year of kneeling in the NFL, and frankly, I’m a sports fan who doesn&#8217;t like politics in sports. But earlier this season, I’m watching a game and they brought in this quarterback, Jay Cutler, who doesn&#8217;t deserve to be in the league. <p>When Greg Morris heard St. Thomas University was cutting the men’s hockey team the former player was more than upset. He believed campus life would suffer a blow, and the fact the team wasn’t winning could have been fixed. “It’s hard to judge from the outside. I’m removed from it, but my heart isn’t removed [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Third year Bailey Andrews remembers suffering a panic attack right before one of her first collegiate rugby games. “I didn’t know what to do, I was just freaking out for no reason. I felt suffocated cause I had everything on me. I just had to take it all off and I stood there shaking,” said [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Three years ago, Alisha Gilbert walked into the tryouts for the St. Thomas University women’s hockey team without notice. Now she’s in her fourth year at STU and a Tommie for life. Gilbert is from Chipman, a small village about 78 km from Fredericton. She has been playing hockey since she was seven years old. [&hellip;]</p>

<p>St. Thomas University and the University of New Brunswick share not only a campus, but athletic club teams as well. UNB Fredericton is home to 22 club teams. Some of the club teams include ringette, fencing, football, cheerleading and tennis. All of the club teams welcome both UNB and STU students to join. STU students [&hellip;]</p>

<p>St. Thomas University has gained a new club team this year: a dance team. First-year student Elizabeth Polk is the creator and captain of the dance team. Polk has been dancing for as long as she can remember and wanted to create a dance team at St. Thomas so she can share her passion and [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Ryan and Garret Dickson have only been on the same volleyball team once before, but they’re excited to take on the St. Thomas University men’s volleyball team this year. Growing up, the brothers played a multitude of sports including basketball and baseball, but volleyball had always been the family sport. “Our mom played volleyball for [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Jessica Patenaude is a fourth-year forward for the St. Thomas University’s women’s basketball team and has had a love for sports since she was young. Her love for athleticism only grew when she stepped foot on STU’s campus and became a committed Tommie.
