<p>A new sport named bubble soccer is blowing up in the Fredericton area this year. “It’s basically exactly the same as soccer in terms of scoring,” says Co-owner of Bubble Soccer Fredericton, Dekota Fletcher. “70 per cent is hitting, and 30 per cent is soccer,” said Fletcher. <p>The search for a new men’s basketball coach is over. Scott MacLeod will be taking over the job as head coach of the Tommies in place of Dwight Dickinson, who announced his retirement earlier in the year. <p>The St. Thomas women&#8217;s hockey team went through a bit of a growing season, bringing 10 new players into their system. The Tommies finished the season with a record of 10-10-4, losing the most overtime games out of any team in the AUS. <p>The men’s hockey team at St. Thomas University had a rough time on the rink this season. The team finished with a record of 2-22-4, which was the worst in the Atlantic University Sports conference. <p>Kelly Vass was named All-Canadian for women’s basketball in the Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association at nationals last week for the second time in her four years at St. Thomas University, but she wasn’t there to hear her name called. <p>St. Thomas University announced earlier this month that Darren Cann is stepping down as men’s soccer head coach after 12 years. “I wanted to spend more time with my family, and I felt it was time for a change,” said Cann. “I felt I had taken STU as far as I could have. <p>There has been a trend over the past couple of years of Canadians going across the border to pay basketball in the United States. This year, 28 Canadians participated in the NCAA national basketball tournament.  That is three more than last year’s 25. The Tommies were undefeated in regular season play, and won the ACAA conference championship with ease, but still were only ranked sixth going into nationals. <p>St. Thomas University announced last week that John-Ryan Morrison will be replacing Darren Cann as head coach of the men&#8217;s soccer team. “I’m probably one of the most passionate people about soccer that you’ll ever meet,” said Morrison. “I still play. The list includes the 2003-2004 men’s basketball team, Crystal Cernivz, Bob Mabie, Gordon Wheaton, Callum MacPhee and Father J. Arther Scott. <p>The Tommies lost a heartbreaking semi-final game against the Mount Allison Mounties on Saturday afternoon. The St. Thomas women’s basketball team came into Saturday well-rested but not on point, as they got the by to the semi-finals due to their top ranking. Mount Allison was the exact opposite. Jon Gionet took the gold medal in shot put at the AUS championships in Moncton on Saturday with a 14.35 meter throw.
