As the crisp fall weather settles over the city, locals are seeking events to enjoy the new season with festive parties and glittery outfits.

On Oct. 4, the Provincial Lounge on Queen Street hosted GoodyGoody’s hoedown dance party, an event filled with disco vibes and funky tech beats.

Queer folks of all ages filled the single-floor space, creating a vibrant, inclusive atmosphere.

Rob Ferris, organizer of the event, created GoodyGoody with the hopes of bringing queer individuals together through dance and free spirit without judgments and stigmatizations.

“It started when I moved here from Toronto. There wasn’t a whole lot that was electronic music-oriented. [I thought] maybe I could do a pride dance party and it kind of snowballed from there,” said Ferris.

In the event’s description, Ferris wanted to highlight the importance of consent in his event, as well as having the freedom to express your most authentic self.

“Be flirty, have fun! Not everything has to be so uptight. Just a place where people can feel free to be themselves,” said Ferris.

GoodyGoody has hosted events around the country, such as Toronto, Halifax and New Brunswick.

“I was really happy with the turnout. I was most satisfied with the country-style hoedown outfits,” said Ferris. “[The theme] was so last-minute, I didn't want it to be mandatory, just a suggestion and so many people bought into that.”

The dance floor broke down the barrier walls to meet new people, as the lights flashed and attendees danced for more than two hours.

Stephen Rowe, an attendee of the event, said everything about the atmosphere was incredible.

“The people were so nice and the music was great,” said Rowe.

As the weather glooms to winter, Fredericton locals are taking the opportunity to look for events where they can express their creativity through outfits and enjoy the outdoors with friends.
