Fredericton begins to feel the effects of Post Tropical Storm Irene

Fredericton and surrounding areas started feeling the effects of Post Tropical Storm Irene on Sunday.
Late Sunday the Canadian Hurricane Centre downgraded Irene to a Post Tropical Storm.
By 8:53 p.m., NB Power reported 1,082 customers in Fredericton without power, 2,608 in Woodstock and 1,518 in St. Stephen. For the latest numbers go here.
Fredericton and Southern York County remains under wind and tropical storm warnings, with Environment Canada warning wind gusts of up to 100 km/h could develop between now and Monday, with up to 70 millimetres of rain.
The storm is expected to weaken and the rain will taper off into showers by Monday morning, when it will track through Northwestern New Brunswick, Environment Canada warnings say.
In a release issued Satuday, the New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization warned water levels would rise along the St. John River basin for the next 72 hours, warning people living and working along the river to pay close attention to the water levels.
On Twitter, New Brunswickers are discussing the hurricane under the hashtag #IreneNB.
CTV reporter and St. Thomas University alum Nick Moore reported at least 32 homes in Oromocto flooded from a heavy downpour earlier in the day.
The City of Fredericton advises anyone with concerns about the storm or damage to report to call 460-2996.
