PEI scores four in final frame

STU’s women’s hockey team should have won against UPEI on Saturday night.

Despite the lopsided score of 6-3, in favour of the UPEI Panthers, the Tommies were the better team throughout the game.

It looked like the Tommies might run away with the game in the second period. After a clever play by Lukie Nussbaum, who tapped her stick on the ice to cause an offensive zone turnover, Kayla Blackmore scored her second of the game to give the Tommies a 3-1 lead.

But the UPEI Panthers would score to cut the Tommies lead to 3-2 before the end of the frame.

The third period would be the back breaker for the Tommies. Although the Panthers’ offense scored four goals in the period, the hero was goaltender Bailey Toupin, who denied all of the Tommies quality scoring chances-and there were many.

After seven games the Tommies are now 3-3-1, placing them third in the seven team league
