Fredericton leads the way in sales

Liquor might be giving a new lease on life to a downtown Fredericton landmark.

Fredericton-Silverwood MLA Rick Miles told local media last week that NB Liquor has negotiated  a deal to rent space inside the historic York Street train station (owned by JDI Irving Ltd.).

An official announcement is expected this week.

If the deal happens, NB Liquor would be opening a location closer to the city’s downtown after the King Street location closed in January 2008. The train station would also be revitalized after years of abandonment.

In other liquor news, Fredericton continues to lead all other areas of the province in liquor sales according

to the corporations 2008-09 annual report. Fredericton’s four corporate stores and eight agency stores brought in $48.7 million in revenues, compared to $45.8 million in Saint John and $41.3 million in Moncton.

The NB Liquor location on Fredericton’s Prospect Street was the province’s second most profitable location, with $18.3 million in revenues for 2008-09. It came just behind Dieppe’s location which registered $19.1 million.

NB Liquor’s 48 corporate and 70 agency locations brought in $394.8 million in revenues.
