Around 1, 000 people turned out Saturday at the provincial legislature to protest the sale of NB Power assets to Hydro-Quebec. Some opposed to the deal argue the government does have a mandate to sell the public utility and are calling for a referendum. The proposed deal would see most of NB Power’s generating assets sold to Quebec, while New Brunswick would keep control of transmission lines and distribution, The deadline to sign the agreement is May 21.
