Students Helping Students, a group created in 2008 to raise money for the Parika Community High School in Guyana, South America, recently reached the $1, 000 mark. The money was used to buy pencils, rulers, and workbooks for the 900 children in the school and to buy garbage pails for each classroom.

Some of it also went towards getting a generator for the school’s water pump so students could go to school during the frequent power outages. $1 000 isn’t much, but it does go a long way in Guyana.

The money was raised by: STU Singers, STU Student Union, STU Athletics, Students for Sustainability, Dr. Tom Bateman, UNB Athletics, Youth With A Mission Guyana, STU Campus Ministry, Judy Coates, and others.
